Banksy, Brewster McCloud and Nashville

by chris cunningham

The infamous stencil grafitti artist [Banksy] hit L.A. recently. It feels odd to seem honored that he’d come here all the way from Bristol, UK and paint up the town! Ha ha! He even got rid of the previous stencil of a maid sweeping stuff up under the wall and put up a new one in it’s place. I’d been hearing that there was one over by the Beverly Theater so I went to check it out tonight. One of his rats is there and a new one of an old lady regarding myspace. Great! The best is still his placing of bogus art installations in the museums in New York.

So, as I was standing next the the Beverly Cinemas there was a double feature of two Robert Altman films. Nashville and Brewster McCloud. What the hell, I’m here and haven’t seen either of them. Brewster is one weird ass film, but I loved it. Although 5 hours of sitting in those chairs at the Beverly is just sheer torture. The double features there are always so good though that it’s worth it. I also picked up the listing for the [World 3D Festival] that is going on in September at The Egyptian Theater. 10 days of classic 3D films from the early years. Can’t wait. You should go.
