Gehry Does L.A. Right

[WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL GALLERY]

Made my way downtown to check out the still somewhat new Frank Gehry [LINK] designed Disney Concert Hall. [LINK] It’s definitely a photographic dream. The Sydney Opera house looks like an onion splitting open, this looks more like flower petals gone awry. Two different designers yet walking around it has the same feel. Especially since both cater to music. This overlooks cars rather than boats. This also shares a similar style to other Gehry designs including the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao [LINK] and the Experience Music Project in Seattle. The highly reflective building aims the late afternoon sun directly into a bunch of apartments across the street. Apparantly it gets over a hundred degrees inside the apartments and it practically cooks the the people alive. Whoops. Besides the design error, beautiful building. Holy crap it was a nice day out, now that I look at the photos again. Other structures designed by the California based architect include the Hollywood Bowl, Santa Monica Place, the Aerospace museum by the IMAX theater at Exposition Park, the Guggenheim Motorcycle exhibit in Las Vegas, “Fred and Ginger” building in Prague, Fish Scuplture in Barcelona, Disney Ice Rink in Anaheim and the Norton House in Venice Beach.
