Pete Yorn At The Wiltern

Hi, my name’s Pete Yorn. I play “Sincere Rock” and take myself way to seriously. I’m gonna stand here with my greasy hair for two hours and not really do much, but you guys like my music so much it’ll seem like I’m really amazing. Since I’ve sold out two shows at The Wiltern you […]

Neko Case At The Derby

[NEKO CASE VIDEO LINK – 1m:50secs – 320×240 – 4.6mb] The long awaited return of Neko Case to L.A. My favorite singer hits Hollywood with an acoustic set at The Derby. For years I always thought she could do a stellar version of the song “Wayfaring Stranger”. Totally out of the blue what’d she open […]

Daniel Lanois At Amoeba Records

That there’d be Daniel Lanois! My friends are going to fall into two camps. The “Who’s that?” camp, or the “OH MY GOD, THAT’S DANIEL LANOIS!” camp. You already know which one you are. Daniel has produced and played on quite a few my favorite albums of all time. He signed a copy of his […]

Peter Gabriel At The Staples Center

Peter Gabriel at the Staples Center. 16 years between shows is way to long. Last time was at the L.A. Forum in 1986 on the “So” tour. During “Growing Up” a Zorb [LINK] was lowered to the ground, Peter was underground and came up underneath it and into its center. Then he wheeled it out […]

Cook Island Dancers

[ISLANDER DANCING VIDEO LINK – 30secs – 192×144 – 566.3k] The production company thought we deserved a little entertainment after all the hard work we’ve been putting in. Not sure why they thought Cook Island dancers were what we needed, but ok. It’s just not right watching Polynesian dancers on a motion capture stage with […]

Alana Gentry at The Gig

Alana Gentry [LINK] and “friends” at “The Gig”. Sandro [LINK] emailed me this flyer of a friend of his that was playing at “The Gig” Saturday night. He thought I’d be interested. Well yeah, a girl with a guitar, count me in. Try finding parking around Melrose on a Saturday night though. I almost drove […]

Anyone Live at Bedlam Art Warehouse – 4:20 Art Show

No, really I didn’t take it. I swear I didn’t inhale. Besides, the band was handing out free joints from the stage anyway and telling everybody to smoke up. I see a bust coming up in the bands future. And yes, that’s a giant video of a woman inserting crayons into herself. Judging by the liver spots on her hands, I’d say she was in her seventies. I think she was making some sorta statement with the colors she chose. I’m not really sure what that statement might have been. As of tonight it’s official. A girl sporting a sombrero, low slung jeans, boobage, a pierced navel, raven hair, and a tattoo on her lower back is my new favorite thing ever. And finally freaks are people too. …and usually funner.

The Anyone Den

I had my taxes done this morning and then had lunch with my parents and sister after that. Got a load of money back, oh my. The last three months have been very green. After that I called up Riz to see if he was around. He just got back from Anyone’s first tour ’round […]

The Concert for Artists’ Rights at The Forum

Kathleen and I hit this benefit show with ton of classic rock icons. Sheyl Crow, John Fogerty, Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel, and The Eagles. Sheyl Crow Setlist: All I Wanna Do – Soak Up The Sun – Abeline – If it Makes You Happy – Everyday is a Winding Road John Fogerty Setlist: Born on […]

Sheryl Crow’s 40th Birthday Party at The El Rey

[SHERYL CROW 40TH BIRTHDAY PARTY GALLERY] Finally! Kathleen and I had chased Sheryl Crow all over the west coast from “Lilith Fair” in Washington to “The Bridge School Benefit” in San Francisco, it was about time we caught a whole show. Instead of the half hour slots at all the festivals. We vowed that whenever […]

Concrete Blonde At The El Rey

What happened to Concrete Blonde? The only thing good about this show was that it was close to home. They need to re-retire. I’ve seen their shows at The Greek Theater and The Wiltern and they were amazing. Tonight it was like watching a twitching dog that’s been hit by a car. It was a […]

Aerosmith & Cheap Trick at The Forum

When I was a little kid, my Dad drove me and two friends to the Long Beach Arena to see Cheap Trick. It was the “Dream Police” tour, and Moon Martin opened up for them. He absolutely sucked. It was the 3rd concert I had ever attended. Kiss and The Who were the first two. […]

Tenacious D And Spinal Tap At The House Of Blues

Tonight was Tenacious D and Spinal Tap at the House of Blues. Just getting there turned into an interesting chore. It started raining sooooo hard that we couldn’t get out of the parking structure. I think this is my new favorite photo. You can actually see the rain twisting in the wind as it streaks […]

Worms Union in Long Beach

[WORMS UNION VIDEO] The amazing “Worms Union”. Fire dancers, topless girls, ethereal music, and general mayhem. That’s the makeup of this art collective from Long Beach. They had played at the Voodoo music festival in New Orleans, so I traveled to the land of Nod, Long Beach, and caught a home town show. I never […]

New Orleans And A Stranger With Gay Porn

[MATT DRESSED UP FOR HALLOWEEN] After all day at the festival and a long wait for a cab last night we awoke late and walked around the Quarter for a bit. Keith and Kyle visited a fairly small internet cafe and the guy next to them was quite busy downloading gay porn. For the whole […]

The Black Crowes At Voodoo Music Experience

The Voodoo Music Festival [LINK] is an all day shindig with 3 stages. There were lots of people goofing about all day, lots of booths to visit and food to eat. Unfortunately the Black Crowes didn’t get a whole set because Snoop Dog decided to hog the stage earlier in the day. I wanted to […]

The Lost Weekend

Matt woke up this morning and wanted boots. He got boots alright.

LAX to New Orleans

Matt Kimball, Steve Bell, Nick Walker and two of Matt’s friends, Keith and Kyle and I, are all meeting up in New Orleans for a weekend of music and drinkin’. Since the 911 attacks they suggested getting to the airport early. I got here way to early.

The Anyone Den

Riz Story of the band “Anyone.” Other than my family, the person I’ve known longest in my life. Since 1st or 2nd grade. I played in his band for a length of time from ’86 to about ’91. Being a graphic designer payed better than a hired gun guitarist. So it all worked out for […]
